Videos - Wadsworth's Season 2 Music / Alternate Theme Songs

The music which Second Season SPACE: 1999 composer Derek Wadsworth wrote for this scene didn't get used in the finished episode.  I suppose they had concerns about music competing with thundering Eagle engine sound effects.  I though it would be interesting to place the music back in so that we might experience the scene as Derek intended.

I created this video on the day I learned that Derek Wadsworth had passed away at the age of 69.

Maya's father, Mentor, attempts to drag the Alphan's Eagle down to his planet of Psychon.  The "G-forces" effect was achieved by spraying the actor's faces with high-speed jets of compressed air!

When musician Derek Wadsworth was hired to do the music for Season Two of SPACE: 1999, he submitted not one but three potential theme songs for Gerry Anderson to choose from.  I thought it would be interesting to put the alternate themes to the visuals to see how the second season opening might have been different had other choices been made.

This theme has a few similarities to the theme finally chosen.  It conveys more of a sense of disaster at the top of the sequence.

This theme has no resemblance at all to the final choice.  It's lighter and more up-tempo, with an interesting transition timed to Barbara Bain's appearance.
